The Sheep River Area in Kananaskis Country has seen many changes over the years. Recently many of the trail names were changed in the Gorge Creek area after the closure of Gorge Creek Trail Road and the undesignation and decommissioning of older trails.

When we go down to the Sheep River area of Kananaskis Country we often get up early and drive to Turner Valley for breakfast. One of our favorite places is Coyote Moon, one block north of the main junction on Hwy 22 (Main Street). It has a pleasant, rustic atmosphere with local art (for sale) on the walls and friendly staff.

Spring and fall hiking in the Sheep River Area. A short walk to the the first High Noon Hill and a visit to the Sheep River with an option to ascend the second foothill and return via a different route.

A 9.3 km snowshoe loop over scenic Long Prairie Ridge in the Sandy McNabb area of the Sheep River with a visit to twin viewpoints atop Pine Ridge. There are many options for shorter or longer trips.
