The Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association has completed the first of its planned new trails at West Bragg. Congratulations! We snowshoed Snowshoe Hare today in balmy 0 to +5°C weather. The new 5.4 km trail starts and finishes at West Bragg parking lot. One trailhead is about half-way along the western section of the parking lot; the other in the northwest corner of the eastern section. The trail is broken and easy to follow, and has been signed for snowshoeing in either direction. There are several short, steep sections which give it a rating of “moderate”. Not recommended for novice snowshoers. Updated November 29.
In the clockwise direction, the trail climbs steadily to a cutline and along the cutline to a junction with Hostel Loop ski trail and North Bragg Trail. It follows North Bragg for about 600 m, then heads north through open trees, sections of meadow and a scenic ridge descending to a cutline. The trail crosses Telephone Loop to a steeply-descending section of cutline, then loops back to the southeast through mixed terrain with a few short, steep sections, eventually leveling out in a marshy creek area. After crossing the creek, the trail follows an old road past a small pond back to the large meadow that was home to the old hostel. Look for a trail sign in the far southwest corner of the meadow. The trail now head down through open trees to the parking lot.
