West Spray Road, Aug 4 | Trip Reports | Kananaskis Outdoors Forum

After a failed attempt at the bike ride from Dead Man's Flats to Canmore this morning (see my comments on Tony's Aug 2010 post regarding my views on the route), we opted to head down #742 to ride the West Spray Road and visit the Canyon Dam spillway to see what TransAlta was up to. TA's doing a LOT of work on the dam, and the road is in heavy use with construction vehicles. A bobcat was working on keeping the road in good shape, and the workers warned me that next week, concrete trucks would be using the road sending loads to the dam project. So the road is currently in pretty good shape, though bumpy in spots.

DON'T (for the record) assume you can make it across the Canyon Dam spillway. It's a raging torrent that I'm surprised hasn't attracted kayakers.
