OK after reading everybody else’s contributions I decided it was time to add one of my own. This short hike is close to Calgary, easy to find, and a great introduction to K country.

After being banished from the house by my wife on Monday, Jan. 3rd. I headed to k-country with a buddy who just moved from Korea. We intended to snowshoe this quick 4.5 km loop but when we arrived at Station Flats the trail was so packed that we just walked instead. The trail departs the parking lot and is well marked although some bright lights have defaced the actual signpost map placed where the trail intersects the Tom Snow path (go right at this point, and cross the bridge to return to the parking lot).  We walked the trail  clockwise which means that you get the short ascent over with first and then get to enjoy a beautiful walk in the Canadian forest.  It only takes a little over an hour to do, requires very little physical exertion and is highly recommended as an introduction to hiking/snow shoeing.

Trail length: about 4 km

Trail head location: Station Flats parking lot off 66 near Bragg Creek

Difficulty: Very easy

Trail Condition: On 1/03/11 there was plenty of snow, but very compacted

It’s the very end of March and we’ve just made a quick snowshoe around Diamond T. Stacks of snow still, but on open slopes it’s getting very heavy.
