Chester Lake, March 25 | Snowshoe Trails | Kananaskis Outdoors Forum

Snowshoed up to Chester today. -3° in the parking lot when I started at 11:15, and +5° when I got back at 3:30. Obvious 2-4 cm sun crust on a lot of the trail in the morning, and packing snow conditions on the way down, meaning it will be crusty again tomorrow. Started mostly sunny, clouded over by 1 PM with the odd flurry thrown in for fun in the afternoon. Pretty quiet up there; I saw a couple of skiers (and their very nice puppy Max) in the parking lot, a solo snowshoer on my way up way, and a pair of snowshoers my way down. I did the full road circle, in using Hwy 40 and out using the Spray Lakes Road, which was a muddy mess in the afternoon, but I saw plows improving the shoulders both on the way in and the way out. Found lots of cars parked on the road at the trailheads for French Glacier, Sawmill, Mount Kent, Commonwealth Creek and others.
