Just thought it might be of interest to some readers that Fortress Mountain is showing signs of life again.  They are running a 4-day-a-week snow cat skiing business this year.  Their website is http://www.KPOW.ca  

But I was more interested to know if they might have plans to open up the Fortress ski road in summer, so we could more easily reach some really nice hikes in the Fortress Ridge area.  So I corresponded with Joey O'Brien who runs (owns) the place and he has replied to say that they have a budget to upgrade the road to "yellow school bus standard" at some stage in the future (not sure when).  He says that right now, the road is not safe and even now they have had to pull their own vehicles out of the ditch several times.  And of course, there's a barrier/chain across the road to stop the general public from driving up there.

It's encouraging that perhaps in the not too distant future we might once more be able to drive up to Fortress resort and enjoy some great day trips.
