The town of Canmore has produced a double-sided trail map, useful for everyone from first time visitors to long-time residents. The map shows all paved pathways and major gravel/natural surfaced trails throughout the town core and along the flanks of Canmore’s surrounding peaks.

The Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association is looking for volunteers to help in the construction of several new trails (snowshoe, skiing, hiking, biking). Their next volunteer trail day, led by Don Cockerton, is Thursday Oct. 14th, meeting at West Bragg parking at 9:30 am.

Pneuma The Moose Mountain Bike Trail Society (MMBTS) has completed (almost) the previously missing section of Pneuma between Elbow Valley and Sulphur Springs trails. Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation is looking for feedback on a proposal to exchange land adjacent to Dead Man’s Flats with public lands, nearby and in the Ghost and Waiparous areas, to allow for better protection of the wildlife corridor between Dead Man’s Flats and the Bow River.

This 20 km hike is a great fall grand tour of the Gorge Creek area of the Sheep that gets you above treeline for quite a while. Yesterday we checked out the trail to the rocky knoll SE of Mount Ware, then traversed under Mount Ware to take some photos.

The area between Station Flats and Canyon Creek Road has become a popular mountain biking destination, with more bikers than hikers on many of the trails. A map shows the conglomeration of trails in the area including some new “Downhill Specific” trails.

An excellent, easy 6 km mountain biking trail has been developed between the eastern end of the present Stewart Creek development and Deadman’s Flats. Apart from a short, somewhat boggy section, the tread is very good.

Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation, as part of its Plan for Parks, is looking for feedback on proposed legislation to simplify the park classification system in Alberta. Under the proposal public park land would be classified as either Provincial Parks or Heritage Rangeland, with Provincial Parks being split into zones that balance recreation and conservation.
